Sustainable mobility planning

Sustainable mobility plans in municipalities.

The seminar for urban planners took place on the 8th of May. The response was very positive and future planning in Limassol takes into account the need for bike paths, bike lanes, walking paths etc. A number of new projects such as the Garyllis Linear Park include a cycling path and pedestrian path for kilometers, passing through Limassol from North to South.
Within the time frames of the specific program and its other requirements we are unable to invest the necessary amount of time and effort in order to change urban planning. We can only offer guidelines for urban mobility planners to utilize.

Public Transport Ticketing -Increased public transport selling points

Increase the public transport ticket selling points via creation of new bus stops.
New bus stops and new bus routes such as bus nr. 33 addition from the tourist area to the old town increase the number of selling points.

There are no vending machines to buy tickets beforehand.
Due to the cost of adding such machines and to the fact that all passengers are already served on the spot by the bus driver, we will not invest in this extra feature right now.
A change in the measure scope was therefore felt as essential and we are now focused on improving bus stops therefore increasing interest in bus use and ticket sales. New bus stops and new bus routes added such as bus nr. 33 from the tourist area to the old town increase the nr of selling points.

Among the participants were the Managers of other regional tourism boards and representatives of the Association of Cyprus Tourism Enterprises and the Cyprus Hotel Managers Association, both of which have members all over Cyprus. With this composition all tourist regions were covered: Nicosia, Larnaca, Ammochostos, Pafos and Troodos.

The Limassol Tourism Board made a presentation of the Seemore project, the actions implemented by Limassol during the first half of the project and the actions to be implemented in the following months. A Stratagem consultant presented the results of the research carried out in Summer 2012 and 2013. All participants were actively participating with comments and comparisons with their own offerings in the area of bus, bike and walking infrastructure and services. Each of the participants noted a number of actions that could be implemented in their own area as well in the near future, such as the preparation of a Mobility Info Package in electronic form, Travel Planner and dissemination of mobility information with the cooperation of both the Association of Cyprus Tourism Enterprises and Cyprus Hotel Managers Association.
